Bra: here you can visit the Church of St. Chiara, a masterpiece
by Vittone, with its recently restored dome. Alba: 10 km
away, it is also called the City of Hundred Towers. It can boast
a remarkable old town centre as well as two architectural gems
like the Gothic church of St. Domenico and St Mary Magdalene’s
Church in the Baroque style. Remarkable examples of sacred art
and architecture can be found in many villages within the Langhe
area, like Barolo, La Morra, Monforte, Castiglione
Falletto, Serralunga, Grinzane Cavour etc.
Novello: a town renowned for its Barolo wine. Here, at
the Bottega del Vino, you can sample this famous wine. A not-to-be-missed
event in Novello is the Baroliadi competition, which takes
place in June. Pollenzo this town once lay on the area
where today stands the former Savoy estate. It featured important
public works like a theatre, an amphitheatre, a few temples and
aqueduct, and the famous wine bank. In the province of Cuneo,
on the border with the provinces of Asti and Turin, there is a
composite hilly area named Roero, characterised by deep
valleys, steep hillsides, vineyards mixing up with fruit trees.
The very heart of the Roero is its “Rocche” (the rocks),
very impressive eroded rocks which give the landscape a wild character.
A mere 80 km away is Savona and the Ligurian Sea.
